thrifty thanksgiving

+ NOVEMBER 24, 2010

Oh, Thanksgiving... it is such a special day filled with all the best things that start with the letter "F" : family, friends, football, fall colors, a wonderful feast, feeling {a little too} full, and many more. I am so thankful for all of those things this Thanksgiving, but most importantly, I am thankful for our Lord, who has blessed me immeasurably.

" Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. - Colossians 3:15 "
Call me crazy but, I feel like the presentation of a Thanksgiving feast is almost just as important as the taste of the food. But once you factor in all the expenses for exquisite entrĂ©es, you may not want to spend extra on table decor. Completely understandable... I came up with some ideas to stay thrifty this Thanksgiving.

Vases @ Walmart: large + small          Candles: Pier 1
{For your centerpiece, you can purchase this "Anchor Hocking Large Cylinder Vase with Candle Holder" from Walmart for $15, and fill the vase with some outdoor fall finds: colored leaves, acorns, small pine cones, cranberries.. etc. Pier 1 has a variety of different heights unscented candles, ranging from 69¢ to $25. You can use the small candle to place inside the vases and the other heights to add accents to your table. Unscented candles are ideal so you and your guests can enjoy the aroma of your meal. A few of the "Anchor Hocking 6" Cylinder Vase with Candle Holder" from Walmart for $10, could be nice to place around the large vase in the center.}

{For name placeholder, buy a bag of pears and type/ hand write names on some paper. Attach by pearl end pins, raffia, or just plain thread!}

{To continue with your precious pear theme, for dessert consider making this Hazelnut Pear Tart. "Alongside your traditional pumpkin pie, our home economists encourage you to slice wedges of this pretty, pleasing pear tart." Find the recipe here}

I hope this helped inspiring some ideas for your Thanksgiving table decor, or just getting you excited for Turkey Day tomorrow! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

nice & neutral

+ FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8 2010

While doing some much needed online shopping, I found these amazing nude wedges from Zara. My pair of peep toe nude pumps from Zara have last me forever. My theory on neutral toned shoes, is that they elongates the legs, giving the perception of long and skinny legs.. who does want that?! I thought these wedges would be perfect for the fall and winter season. Personally, I match my taupe toes with any color; for the next season I could imagine wearing these wedges with either a black, scarlet, plum, forest green, or even deep blue dress paired with a statement necklace. Now that I have it completely set in my mind on how I would style them... I guess I will just HAVE to buy them.

fall fingertips

+ THURSDAY, OCTOBER 7 2010

I don't know if it is the sudden burst of cold air in Tuscaloosa this week, but it feels and looks like fall and I couldn't be happier! I always up to try new nail polish, and I really enjoyed using Sally Hansen's Fast Dry Nail Color Pen... but the new Essie Fall colors are to DIE for! There is a perfect color for every girl; if you didn't want to make a dark dramatic statement then the "in stitches" or "limited addiction" would look great! I personally want to try out "sew psyched" and "velvet voyeur".... and the "merino cool". I can't help it, they are all such cool colors for the fall season.

How adorable would this dress be for fall, styled with some brown riding boots and an arm full of gold and silver bangles? I just love online browsing on pixie market...
