Over the Easter weekend I saw Alice in Wonderland and was blown away! I was expecting something very avant-garde, which it was, but so very fun and exciting. After the movie, my boyfriend was talking about how impressed he was with the graphics and the modern spin on the old cartoon; all I was paying attention to was the fashion and use of color! Here are some pictures from the movies' website.
The story is told in the 19th century and the character Alice, played by Mia Wasikowska, is dressed in this perfectly tailored corseted gown. I love everything about it; from the color to the silhouette.
As she shrinks and grows, her gowns changes to fit her body. When she shrinks in Wonderland, we see her in this new dress. I think it represents the change from her ridged world, full of proper etiquette, to this playful world in Wonderland, full of color and mystery. Everything about this dress is inspiring, especially the ribbon detailing and floating ruffles.
The Red Queen, played by Helena Bonham Carter, has such an interesting costume. As she is the Queen of Hearts, ironic because she is so heartless, her wardrobe plays off the heart shape. The scarlet red that is used juxtaposing the beige and black sets the tone of sophistication, seriousness, and sinful nature of her very character.
Saving the best for last, it does not come to a big surprise that my favorite of all favorites was the White Queen, played by Anne Hathaway. Hathaway did a wonderful job acting the part, so angelic, blissful, and heavenly. I was captivated by not only the nature surrounding the gorgeous castle, but her dress! As I have said before, I am in LOVE with anything that screams femininity, and this is the perfect example: pearls, chiffon, lace, metallic silver detailing...
Go see it while it is still in theaters, I promise it is worth it! Let the colors, fashions, and imagination enchant you!
