confessions of a closet organizer

For as long as I can remember, I have been infatuated with closets; having this idea of transforming a master bedroom-sized space into a home for all of my clothes. In reality, I have the tiniest closet in my entire house, back in Houston, which is in direct correlation to being the youngest. Here at college, my closet is much bigger (ironic isn't it?) and I have loved having the space to decorate. I cannot wait to move back to Houston, and get a place of my own place with a HUGE closet! May take some time... but I really am excited! I am borderline obsessed with organization and cleanliness, which is obvious in my closets. I even completely redid my sister and her husband's closet and loved every minute of it. Here are some dream closets...
It is so easy to have the closet space of your dreams, even if you don't have alot of room to work with. A few tips I live by for a perfect closet:
  • less is more: each season go through each piece and see if you have worn it recently.. if you haven't worn it, it is for a reason so donate
  • organize by type of clothing: tops- strapless, spaghetti straps, tanks, cap sleeves, short sleeves, three quarter length, long sleeves; tunics; dresses- same as tops; sweaters and jackets; skirts and pants
  • organized by color: within the organized section, example tops, categorize whites to pastels, brights, darks, to blacks.
  • create some uniformity: I like to use the same type of hanger all the way through. I use wooden hangers because of the way they don't leave marks on the clothes. Velvet also works great!
  • add a little personality: if there is room, I like to add a bookcase and fill it with purses/ clutches instead. Also I have vintage Vogue prints from London I hung in my college closet. My closet at home in Houston has an inspiration bulletin board in it as well!
Hope my ideas were helpful!
